i had 4 months of PT prior to the surgery, to try to control the pain... immediately after the surgery, a month of in-home PT, then they sent me to aquatic PT for about 6 weeks, then about 4 months of regular PT. I am a PT veteran.

I wonder what kind of techniques they use. They have to work on my lower back, right leg, knee down to the arch of my foot

As far as pain management prior to the surgery, they used ultrasound on me. It didn't work. They did put me in traction too, which was wonderful... stretched my spine out as far as it would go relieving the pinched nerves. I would fall instantly to sleep... it was the only time I was painfree and I took advantage of it. matter of fact, I would love to be intraction now...

and i'm sure the pain was even worse for you so no pain meds at all?

yes, they mentioned ultrasound but i'm not sure how it would alievate pain. wish there was spell check in here. ultrasounds bounce sounds

i know that when i went in for xrays, they had this guy in traction. hooked something up to the lower part, like something you see hooked up to a rock climber but more clasps and such. then by the crotch, there was a line that went into a machine and when he punched up the buttons you could hear the line being pulled in. told him it looked midevil lol

I took something called Ultram prior to surgery... it is less addictive than most other prescriotion pain meds. not that I have an addiction issues, heck, I don't even smoke. But I knew that there was potential for me to be on/need pain meds for atleast a year, and so many people end up addicted... so I didn't risk it.

Mostly I relied on my TENS device.. when used properly it was the best thing for pain management prior to the surgery. Of course, after the surgery I took percocet. I was prescribed 2 percs every 3 hours! LMAO No way I was taking that much... I took one every 6 hours. My neurosurgeon went to write me another script when I went for my post-surgical appointment and I told him I wasn't even half done the bottle... he laughed and told me that almost 100% of people take the pains meds as prescribed or take more. Basically, he told me I was a freak.

Yes, you are hooked up by the pelvis and the shoulders... then they stretch. It is a 'last ditch' tatic, but I needed it...

2. 2 percs every 3 hrs is isane@
3. freak means superwoman

i'm just one of those people with a low threshhold for pain. nothing worked so now i have a pharamacy in my cabinet. should throw them out but that;s not allowed since they are narcotics. could flush them but might drug up the water and drug up the fish... not to sure about that. lol

well, i'm learning to cope with pain now by moaning so

TENS device = transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator. It operates on something called the 'closed gate theory'...basically stated, a nerve can only accept one impulse at a time, if the pain impulse is greater than that is the one it will accept. The TENS device has electrodes that you attach to a specified place on your body (that corresponds with the nerve) and it emits a shock... you are supposed to crank the TENS up as high as you can (just short of pain) so that you create an impulse that is greater than the pain impulse, so as to 'block out the pain'. I hope that makes sense...

I flushed the percs I didn't use... what else are you supposed to do with them? Sell them on the strets for extra coin??? LOL

Hey.. how much snow did you end up with?

they gave me hydrocodone but that did nothing. then oxycodone but that made me itch all over. then methocarbamol but it made me constipated. then flexeril which knocked me out. can't be out with kids. thank god sean didnt have work today!!!!!!

Yes, its Mr. B's pool league night... but I'm under the weather so the 3some will have to wait. Besides, I never agreed to the 'players' in this game...

going on day 4 now.

Despite it snowing hard the bulk of the afternoon here, it never accumulated at all. It was a very wet snow and ground was just way too warm. Looked great though! Very large flakes.
